I'm Torn

I’m torn between the law and progress.
Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Robert Kennedy, Jr., and others are taking a wrecking ball to our government with the promise of making it Great Again. Republicans are shell-shocked, and Democrats are angry. The American population had taken a different perspective. Most appreciate the idea that someone is finally rooting out waste and corruption in what has unaffectionately been called the SWAMP. Still, other political parties are crying foul.
I started Reengineering Politics a while back, thinking that if people were more educated on political topics, they’d vote for better people to represent them, and we’d have a government that made better decisions. Sadly, our system is so broken that such enlightenment will not work. Instead, people have sunk deeper into whatever side they believe is correct. In their defense, it is impossible to fully understand the truth when you must fact-check everything and never have all of the data to make a logical decision one way or the other.
The only Senators and/or Representatives who represent the people in their districts are the ones who must win in an evenly divided political district. These evenly divided districts are much harder to find with Gerrymandering and other political games. The politicians that win in these politically polarized voting districts support their political party. They care little about improving our country and even less about fixing the problems most of us know exist. Instead of negotiating on behalf of the American people, they do deals that help them win reelection. This means that spending increases, taxes decrease, debt increases, and any government entity is bogged down with bureaucrats.
Donald Trump
Enter Donald Trump. I have not been a fan of Donald Trump until now. I am an engineer. Reengineering Politics was started to fix the mechanics of our broken political machine. I was frustrated because the brilliant system of government envisioned by the founders is not working in our modern world, and it will not be fixed by following it into the future. So, a mechanic is ignoring the traditions of government, and he has scattered the engine parts on the floor of the garage and hopes to reassemble them into a government that is for the people, by the people, and of the people. His opponents are claiming he is breaking laws and ignoring long-held traditions. Indeed, he is.
Donald Trump is in the Republican Party, but Republicans and Democrats dislike him. He has rewired the Republican Party to the dismay of many of the Republican traditionalists. Republicans endorse him and his ideas because they understand Republican voters are more likely to side with Donald Trump’s system than return to the stodgy Republicans of yesteryear.
The Law
The founders created the U.S. Constitution because they didn’t trust a dictator or monarch to do the right thing. Our system of government and the law was intended to hold the law as sacrosanct above human intervention. The angry Democrats and indignant Republicans are right to defend the U.S. Constitution and not relinquish their constitutional authority.
We were okay with the Constitution until the Civil War when one side would rather separate from the Union than go along with what was happening in Washington, D.C. Since then, we have added a few helpful amendments to right some wrongs.
Sadly, this system is no longer working. Government bureaucrats and ideologues have hijacked it and used it to advance their ideals in secret. Our founders could not have imagined what our system has devolved into today. I deeply respect the intent of the law. However, the law has now become a behemoth needing major reform… and politicians who benefit from the old system are predictably shouting for the current wrecking ball to stop.
Not 100% Trump Fan
For ideologues… you deserve to have a country that respects your liberties and your priorities. You do not deserve to rob fellow Americans and younger generations to use the government to advance your causes. Incidentally, I disagree with Donald Trump’s one-sided view of our country. If we want people to self-rule, we must find ways to work toward solutions that work for most Americans.
In the meantime, I am eager to see what DOGE, and Trump’s team dig up.
